Funny Bone | Gambler's Regrets

Gambler’s Regrets is the theme song for GGC’s sub group the Quit Gambling Club (QGC). Gambler's Regrets is pathetic and humorous. It's translation is the combine efforts of members. The first two lines of the lyrics could not be translated literary. The idea behind the verses we explained instead.

歌詞/Lyrics.
拎霖(呀)六、長衫六、高腳七，(呀)仲有一隻大頭六；
This speaks of a the bad hands in paigow where you will
end up with the least point. No matter how you arrange it
you will get at best 2 or 3 points. The highest is 9.

二三更，瓜老襯(啦)，輸到我木
With 2 or 3 points losses will be certain. Frequently getting
these hands will make you lose until your heart is hardened.

日夜賭場嚟(呀)侍候，生意唔(呀)撈，我兩頭游(呀)；
Day and night I would be loitering in the casino.
I lost the motivation to improve my business

我嘅錢輸(呀)晒，真係冇修；
After losing all my money, I am hard pressed.

食更青， 頂肚癮，搵菜頭；
I took only light snack in order to channel everything
to wager hoping to make a fast buck.

劃積(cheque)又怕，彈返轉(呀)頭；
I thought of issuing a cheque but it will bounced anyway.

(呢)問(呀)人哋借(呀)，佢又擰吓擰吓頭；
I tried to borrow some money but people and even loan sharks
would avoid me.

籌碼 部，佢又詐嬲，拈出碼頭，把本收；
The pawn shops are disgusted with me but I need to convert
all I have in gaming chips for a bankroll.

爛手錶都當晒，冚塴唥,冇謀；祖先不開眼，令我(就)好擔憂；
I pawned off everything including my worthless watch
Praying to my ancestor did not help and it worries me.

我從前(呀)知道係咁醜(啦)，我都唔使踎街 頭...
If only I knew gambling would lead to this disgrace I would had tried
to avoid it and today I wouldn't have to live off the streets.

Gambler's Regrets was a popular hit in 1969. Perhaps is was influenced by the hit "House of the Rising Sun" by The Animals in 1964. The hard economic times of that era lead many people to turn to gambling to relief their financial burden. Gambling only brought more problems to these people.
