Commentary | Criminal Activities with a Gambling Backdrop

From filth to wealth.

Without the mafia protection, people would dare to commit crime against the casino. When the casino was a yakuza, people fear to offend the casino. People just need to see some fangs to know fear. As a nice legal guy, the casino is just a harmless kitten. Below are some cases XingCai covered previously to prove her point.

  • Cheating the Casino with Edge Sorting
The eye in the sky poses no threat to those who intend to cheat the casino. A team of four-man-team comprising of two dealers used edge sorting to cheat the casino. Chinese triads would have their hands chopped off if they pull such stunts in their casino.
  • Serial Cheaters at Casinos
A team used the camera's blind spot to pull off a chip forgery scam at several casinos. With their activities recorded, observation eventually uncovered their plot.
  • Violence at Betting Shops
It is common for sore losers to return to the shop with hammer or axe to cause greater damages to gambling facilities in Europe.
  • Murdered at the Bookies
The violence gets taken up a notch when a life was taken at the betting shop.
  • Arm Robbery at Betting Shop
The "gutsiness" also get promoted when it comes to stealing from the casino. Armed robbers had targeted betting shops just any other convenience store.
  • Cruelty for the Sake of Gambling
XingCai had a unique case of a mother leaving her daughter unattended for the sake of gambling. This is the only crime that is not against the casino.

Facing the law is essentially spending time behind bars. In contrast the mafia can take up a vendetta against your entire household. XingCai had also brought up an interesting study to support the casino being transformed into dominant institutions of capital and government.
