Commentary | Edge Sorting

+SavySeph gave a good explanation of edge sorting. This method is about marking cards by simply turning them upside down. It is a very popular magician's card trick and when applied to gambling is as good as printing money in your backyard.

Edge sorting is sorting out a deck or shoe so that certain key cards could be easily identifiable. The key cards will be base on the game that is being played and the strategy that is devised to give gamblers a superior advantage. Phil Ivey had brought this method into baccarat with great success.

The devised strategy was the main factor in Ivey's success story. Once the cards are edge sorted, the rest is to follow the strategy mechanically. No special skill is required hereafter. The bad news is edge sorting requires many conditions for it to work. The biggest set back is the high drawdown to get the cards edge sorted.

  1. You only cover edge sorting part but not the Ivey versus Genting part in the web page. I like to hear what you have to say about Genting since it is the casino of your homeland. As for me I stick to my views that they are cry babies and sore loser.

    1. XingCai if you read between the lines, SavySeph already covered that on her web page. Ivey did not touch the cards but got the dealing crew to do him the favor. That to some extend indicates that, they have no objections against Ivey's request yet they can turn around later and accuse him a cheat when the matter was thrown in the legal arena.

    2. XingCai just want me to admit that Genting is a sore loser. What good will that do? Genting maybe the casino in my home country but I am not their spokesman. Yes, I agree that Genting had been the biggest cry baby here and that they are a real disgrace. That I already cover in my previous blog.

Abby is right, SavySeph already cover the Genting versus Ivey scene. Again it is so disgraceful that the clowns at Genting had played right into Ivey's hand. Even people who do not know edge sorting, taking their bus ride up the hill, can say Genting had not been a good sport and had no right to accuse Ivey for cheating when he had not touched the cards.

If Ivey was a cheat then Genting themselves are the accomplice. They could have told Ivey politely that his request was against house rules if they are aware of edge sorting. Everyone had to pay for their ignorance and Genting should man up and take this loss with true gambling spirit. The publicity will do them good. But they choose to play smarty pants. I heard, "ignorance is not an excuse" in the courts many times.
